Tri-County Head Start operates a preschool classroom at Needham Elementary in Durango. Children and families enrolled at Needham benefit from becoming familiar with the school where they may go to Kindergarten. We’re excited to welcome you to our friendly, safe, and nurturing classroom.
Welcome to Needham Head Start!
We are happy to help you and your child as you begin your preschool journey. Here in our Head Start classroom at 9-R’s Needham Elementary School, you have the unique benefit of bringing your child to the same school where they may start kindergarten. Your child will feel comfortable and a sense of belonging as they become familiar with the routines, surroundings, and smiling faces at the elementary school.
We believe every child has the right to a quality education, and we’re here to provide just that! That means your child will have positive experiences in safe, nurturing classrooms. They will build trusting relationships with teachers who are qualified, and most importantly, love their jobs. Our teachers will focus on creating experiences so your child learns to love school and will be ready for kindergarten.
We’re also here to support you – the families! We know you are the most important piece of your child’s education. With open communication, we can connect you to resources and services to help meet your needs. We would also love to see you get involved and volunteer in our classroom. We’re excited to welcome you to 9-R Head Start.

Needham Head Start is open from August through May each year.
Head Start Availability
- Head Start Preschool Slots for children ages 3-5 years old
- 1 preschool classroom with up to 16 children
- 4 days a week, Tuesday–Friday
- There are two options for length of day*:
- Part day: 7:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
- School day: 7:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
*Part day is no cost to families. Tuition charges may apply to extend to full School day; tuition assistance is available.
At our 9-R Head Start locations, we follow the Durango 9-R school district calendar as closely as possible.
