This centrally located campus is our largest center, serving toddlers and preschoolers. It has been helping the children and families of La Plata County prepare for kindergarten for years. We’re excited to welcome you to our friendly, safe, and nurturing center.
Welcome to Durango North!
At the Durango North Head Start Center, we are here to help your child become more independent, self-sufficient, prepared for kindergarten, and most of all to have fun!
Providing a fun, nurturing, and safe environment takes a community of teachers, staff, and parents working together. Our teachers and staff care deeply about you and your child. We focus on supporting your whole family, and are here to help guide you through the journey of early childhood. Parents and guardians are encouraged to be involved in their child’s education, and there are many ways you can do this. We have a parent committee that plans school events like ice cream socials and summer picnics, and a Policy Council where parents may interact with our Board to influence school policies.
Our families at Durango North come from all walks of life, and we are here to support you and your child no matter where you are in your journey. We love what we do here and hope you do too.

Durango North is open year-round, from September through August.
Early Head Start Availability
- Early Head Start for children ages 1–3 years old
- 5 Early Head Start classrooms
- Up to 8 children per class
- 5 days a week, Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Head Start Availability
- Head Start preschool for children ages 3–5 years old
- 2 preschool classrooms
- Up to 16 children per class
- 4 days a week, Tuesday–Friday
- There are two options for length of day*:
- Part day: 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
- School day: 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
*Part day is no cost to families. Tuition charges may apply to extend to full School day; tuition assistance is available.
