Tri-County Head Start operates the Mesa View Head Start Center in Cortez. Mesa View serves toddlers and preschoolers under one roof! It has been helping the children and families of Montezuma County prepare for kindergarten for years. We’re excited to welcome you to our friendly, safe, and nurturing center.

We are excited to welcome you, your child, and your family. At the Mesa View Head Start Center, we are here to help your child become more independent, self-sufficient, prepared for kindergarten, and most of all to have fun!
Providing a fun, nurturing, and safe environment takes a community of teachers, staff, and parents working together. Our teachers and staff care deeply about you and your child. We focus on supporting your whole family, and are here to help guide you through the journey of early childhood. Parents and guardians are encouraged to be involved in their child’s education, and there are many ways you can do this. We have a parent committee that plans school events like ice cream socials and summer picnics, and a Policy Council where parents may interact with our Board to influence school policies.
Our families at Mesa View come from all walks of life, and we are here to support you and your child no matter where you are in your journey. We love what we do here and hope you do too.

Mesa View is open year-round for Early Head Start and from August through May for Head Start.
Early Head Start Availability
- Early Head Start toddler program for children
ages 1–3 years old - 2 Early Head Start classrooms
- Up to 8 children per class
- Children attend 5 days a week, Monday–Friday,
7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Head Start Availability
- Head Start preschool for children ages 3–5 years old
- 2 preschool classrooms
- Up to 17 children per class
- Children attend 4 days a week, Monday–Thursday,
7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
