From enrollment, to graduation and beyond, Tri-County Head Start is committed to caring for the success and well-being of our children and families.

Our toddler and preschool programs nurture the development of your young child and support your family well-being.

What does our Head Start program include?

Our program includes child care in center-based classrooms for:

  • Early Head Start (toddler)
  • Head Start (preschool)

As part of our services, all enrolled children receive:

  • Research-based curriculum to increase school readiness
  • Inclusive classrooms for children with special health care needs and disabilities
  • Nutritious meals for breakfast and lunch
  • Yearly health screenings, including vision and hearing

Families also have access to family support resources, including parenting classes, housing assistance, and much more from community agencies.

How much does the Head Start Program cost?

Participation in Early Head Start and Head Start is free of charge for eligible families.

Where are the Tri-County Head Start locations?

Our locations include 4 licensed, center-based child care programs. We also partner with 5 high quality programs to offer Head Start slots at Community Partner locations.

  • Archuleta County
  • La Plata County
  • Montezuma County

What would a typical day look like for my child?

Routines are very important for preschool children and toddlers. Each of our classrooms establish a daily schedule that is posted for families. A typical daily routine may include:

  • Arrival/greeting: families and staff support your child’s transition from home to school
  • Free-choice, center-based play: focused on developmentally appropriate interactions
  • Breakfast & Brushing teeth
  • More center-based play
  • Small group learning
  • Outdoor play
  • Large group stories/songs/literacy
  • Lunch
  • Quiet time (if attending more than 4 hours) & Departure/Home
